Primary School at Quinns Baptist College

The care and wellbeing of our students is supported by weekly Christian Education lessons, devotions within the school environment, prayer for our students, access to Chaplains and dedicated caring staff that are committed to supporting students navigate the various challenges they may encounter from time to time.

Quinns Baptist College follows the K-10 Western Australian Curriculum and Assessment Outline, which was implemented nationally in 2014 and is being updated from 2023. There are eight learning areas.

These are:

• English
• Mathematics
• Science
• Humanities and Social Science
• Technologies
• Health and Physical Education
• The Arts
• Languages – Indonesian
• Christian Education – additional to the 8 Learning Areas

Specialist Teachers provide 1 lesson per week in Sport, Indonesian, Music, Drama (Year 4 - 6),  and Visual Art.

As part of our Health Program throughout the school we also implement the following programs:

• PATHS - social and emotional learning program
• Keep Safe Child Protection Curriculum - providing students the knowledge and skills for protective behaviours.
• There is also a strong focus on Cyber Safety.

Junior Primary K-2

Our Kindergarten to Year 2 classes aim to provide a dynamic and caring environment for all children in our care. Through the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), we believe that building upon children's experiences and prior knowledge provides the best foundation for learning in early childhood.

The Early Years Learning Framework bases all learning on the following five learning outcomes:

• Children have a strong sense of identity
• Children are connected with and contribute to their world
• Children have a strong sense of well being
• Children are confident and involved learners
• Children are effective communicators

Fundamental to this framework is a view of children's lives as characterised by BELONGING, BEING and BECOMING.

"Play provides opportunities for children to learn, as they discover, create, improvise and imagine. Play provides a supportive environment where children can ask questions, solve problems and engage in critical thinking".

Alongside the Early Years Learning Framework the Junior Primary classes follow the Western Australian Curriculum and Assessment Outline and Kindergarten Guidelines. The Junior Primary classrooms are filled with displays and celebrate learning, discovery and achievements.

Junior Primary classes offer a thematic approach to the Curriculum. Each theme is carefully chosen with a consideration to the age and interests of the students and is also guided by student interests.

Upper Primary 3-6 

During the Upper Primary years there is an emphasis on: 

• Increasing personal responsibilities
• Friendships and restful relationships
• Enthusiasm for learning
• Developing a sense of pride in their efforts
• Celebrating achievements
• An awareness of God
• Preparation for Secondary School
   

Our Dance Sport and our Swimming programs encourage our students to lead more active and healthy lifestyles. We have found that students who participate in a variety of co-curricular activities consistently improve their academic results. We believe that our activities will help students to become productive, well-adjusted and responsible citizens.
